Who: Johnnie Walker
What: President and Founder, NABFEME
National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment
Why: The organization was formed to create a support and empowerment resource for Black female professionals, managers, technicians and business owners in the music and entertainment industry. The focus of the organization is economic and career advancement.
What Makes it Unique: NABFEME is the only organization that caters nationally to women of color in the entertainment industry.
Greatest Success: As corny as this may sound, I have to say that seeing my daughter get her masters degree and walk across that stage to receive her MBA!
Greatest Challenge: Right now, my greatest challenge is convincing corporate America and showing them that Black female executives in the entertainment industry exist. They know who they know but there are many more. Who we are and what our efforts mean to their bottom line in many areas because we are lawyers, media executives, film and more . . . We also need to stop referring to ourselves by our titles and take on the mantle of executive instead.
Words of Advice: You need discipline to succeed and survive. And patience, you have to put in the work, be patient and have faith. Be strong in your faith and put your trust in God and you’ll be just fine.
