About:
The Pointer Sisters grew up singing together, honing their technique at the Oakland, CA church where their father was the minister. Masters of a wide range of musical styles, including jazzy scat singing and country crooning, they were soon backing such music luminaries as Dave Mason, Boz Scaggs and Grace Slick. The Pointers began making their own mark on popular music with a long string of hits, starting with their funky interpretation of Allen Toussaint's “Yes We Can Can.” Their original, “Fairytale,” was a crossover country hit, and the group became the first black female group to perform at The Grand Ole Opry. Late-‘70s and early-‘80s chart-toppers such as Bruce Springsteen's “Fire,” “He's So Shy,” “Slow Hand,” “I'm So Excited,” “Jump (For My Love)” and “Automatic” were staples on MTV and radio stations worldwide.
The Pointers have released over 50 albums. They’ve been nominated ten times for GRAMMY Awards and have won three: Best Country Vocal Group (for “Fairytale”), Best Pop Performance by a Group or Duo (for “Jump”) and Best Vocal Arrangement (for “Automatic”).
