TRAVEL

Travel Lite!

Traveling is tough these days. Restrictions, security checks, flight delays and other inconveniences have taken the joy out of what many have considered to be enjoyable . . . traveling the world. Now not only do you have to endure long lines, practically disrobing before you get to the gate, less than wonderful service once onboard and uncomfortable sardine seating; you have to also plan what you are going to take and how you are going to return with purchases! Yet there are people who still insist on traveling with everything they own in tow! Are you one of those? If so, I have a few simple suggestions to help you lighten your load while traveling . . . let’s start with your toiletries. For starters, let me say that I believe in traveling with one (1) carry-on and a handbag. While folks are waiting for their checked luggage, I am already in a car on my way to the hotel and the start of my adventure. I tend to travel with pretty much the same articles all the time, replacing and replenishing worn out or depleted items as necessary. It doesn’t matter how long I will be away two days, two weeks or two months . . . one carry-on!!!! My motto, “If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t go!” Now, back to your toiletries . . . Most of us make the mistake of carrying bottles of shampoo and conditioner, steam rollers, blow dryer, and full sizes of their favorite cosmetics . . . Consider . . .

Fragrance. Instead of lugging that bottle of “could be confiscated at security check” cologne, consider fragrance towelettes like these from Roger & Gallet in Blue Lotus, a ten pack of these refreshing, individually wrapped, fragrant tissues are about $8.00. A quick look online will uncover other companies with similar products.

Items that do double duty. Swabplus creates a line of liquid filled swabs called PureSnapz that I love. My favorite is the aqua tip, which is a water-filled swab that can be used wet or dry. They also have a line called BeautySnapz to help you handle all those beauty emergencies removing nail polish, eye make-up, waterproof mascara, lipstick to conditioning your cuticles and revitalizing your lips! They come conveniently packaged and you can mix your favorites. Available at drugstores.

Basics. Keep it small. Take your toothbrush of course, but when it comes to dental floss, try Crest Glide, 30 single-use packets of deep clean mint flavored floss, which is great for your purse too, $5.69.

Another neat item is Dental Dots a fingertip toothbrush that adheres to your fingertip to keep your smile bright, 18 disposable self-stick dots come with pre-applied toothpaste.

For flight delays . . . keep your cool and stay fresh with Shower to Shower’s Body Cloths that instantly revitalize you anytime, anywhere with the scent of vanilla essence and their signature powder leaves your skin feeling silky.

I also like to travel with alcohol free eye and make-up remover pads like those by JeanPierre, a pack of 20 pre-moistened pads are about $3.99.

A travel must . . . toilet seat covers. Charmin has a pack of 10 in a resealable bag (another perfect for your purse item) to protect your tush, $1.99.

Leave that tube or bottle of sunscreen at home and try SPF 30 sunscreen towelettes by Desert essence, $12.99.

Now for that blow dryer, there is one in your hotel room. Curlers? Try the old fashioned way; wrapping sections of hair around tissue and tying, covering with a shower cap and letting the steam work or just changing up and going natural! Lotion, shampoo and conditioner . . . It won’t hurt you to use what’s available for a couple of days will it? Lighten your load this summer when traveling and keep it simple! Think about it. See you next week.©Audrey Adams
