A Once-in-a-Lifetime Celebration of Trumpeter Mark Morganelli’s Jazz Forum Lofts
WHO: Jazz Forum Arts Executive Director Mark Morganelli invites jazz fans to witness history, as he presents a spectacular, one-night-only event, JAZZ FORUM @ 30, celebrating the Thirtieth Anniversary of his Jazz Forum lofts, where some of the greatest jazz artists in the world performed between 1979 and 1983. When the Jazz Forum closed in April 1983, after four short years, Morganelli had presented 1500 concerts, including memorable shows by Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Tommy Flanagan and Barry Harris, Sphere, Roy Haynes, Pepper Adams, Al Haig, Lee Konitz, Bill Hardman and Junior Cook, Cedar Walton, Bob Berg and Tom Harrell, and countless other great artists.
JAZZ LEGENDS: Twenty of those artists will reconvene for one special evening: Jazz luminaries performing that night will be Barry Harris, Ray Drummond, Leroy Williams, Lou Donaldson, Jon Hendricks & Co. (pictured above right), Cedar Walton, Buster Williams, Louis Hayes, George Coleman, Joe Lovano, George Mraz, Al Foster, John Scofield, Donald Harrison, Kenny Barron, Rufus Reid, Jimmy Cobb, Claudio Roditi and Paquito D’Rivera.

6th Annual Rhythms for Life Men’s Health Forum

WHO: Samuel Daniel, President & CEO of North General Hospital, will host roundtable discussions with North General’s healthcare experts, free screening for HIV, Diabetes, Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and depression.
WHY: Citing disparities in diagnoses and treatment for a variety of diseases which disproportionately affect African American and Latino men—prostate cancer, diabetes, hypertension and hepatitis C among them—Dr. Daniel saw a need for a forum specifically concerned with minority male health issues. Heart disease, diabetes and cancer stand in the way of leading a long, healthy life: these leading causes of death in men are preventable.

SYNOPSIS: Written and Directed by Roger Paris, AMEN SISTER is a play with comedic surprises and dramatic revelations. Five members of the Women's Executive Board of Shiloe Baptist Church face a challenging dilemma when they have to select a new member on their board. They convene a meeting on a Saturday afternoon at Sister Ruby's house to make their decision. Meeting outside the church, having to challenge the imperious Sister Esther, and trying to understand the eccentric behavior of Sister Viola, provide an exciting and entertaining experience in theater as the women struggle with hidden agenda's and well-kept secrets.
