WHAT:The PIER ANTIQUES SHOW— The show has 500 vendors and numerous specialists in antique, estate and designer costume jewelry. If building a collection is your passion, you’ll find some of the hottest collectible categories represented at the show – aviation collectibles, advertising signs, polished aluminum, Bakelite radios and more.

Black Angels Over Tuskegee
WHAT: "Black Angels Over Tuskegee" has been an official selection of the 2007 and 2009 National Black Theater Festival and recently won the 2009 NAACP Award for Best Ensemble, as well as the 2009 Artistic Director Achievement Award for Best Play.
WHO: Screen Actor, Lamman Rucker is set to star in the historic drama. After nearly two years of repeated filming on television and in feature films, he returns to the stage in a stirring performance depicting the life of an ex-boxer turned Tuskegee Airman. Rucker is joined by a stellar company of performers, two of which (along with Rucker) co-founded The Black Gents of Hollywood, an all-male ensemble driven to resurrect, redefine, and restore positive images of African-American men.
ABOUT: The narrative depicts the lives of six men who struggle through the Jim Crow era and emerge with distinction as the first African-American pilots in the U.S. Army Air Forces. With courageous brotherhood, their intelligence, patriotism and strength propel a dream into flight while fighting both military and social wars.

ABOUT: Once an African American tradition of arranged marriages; THE RESURRECTION OF ALICE, is about Alice, a young girl wed to a repulsive, financially comfortable, community pillar old enough to be her grandfather. This animated and striking story is told by one woman (Ms. Gaffney), portraying a multitude of characters: Rev. Prichard, Isaac, Miss Johnson, Mrs. Petty, Mr. Tucker, Alice, & 22 Others.

National Black Writers’ Conference
And Then We Heard the Thunder: Black Writers Reconstructing Memories and Lighting the Way
WHAT: The Tenth National Black Writers' Conference (NBWC), hosted by the Center for Black Literature. Celebrating over 25 years of history since its inception in 1986 under the visionary leadership of John Oliver Killens, the Conference assembles some of the brightest minds and finest pens in literature. John Oliver Killens was writer-in-residence at Medgar Evers College from 1981 until his death in 1987.
The theme of the National Black Writers' Conference is And Then We Heard the Thunder: Black Writers Reconstructing Memories and Lighting the Way. Through a series of panel discussions, roundtables, author readings and storytelling, the National Black Writers' Conference will use the metaphor of thunder, memory and light to examine the historical representation of the literature of Black writers and the representation of new and future directions for contemporary and emerging literary voices.
This year’s conference attendees can again look forward to panels, readings and workshops from highly regarded writers Sonia Sanchez, Kamau Brathwaite, James McBride, Edwidge Danticat, Kevin Powell, Bernice McFadden, Dolen Perkins-Valdez, Colson Whitehead, Toure and Stacyann Chin among others. WHAT: A soul-stirring evening of classic and contemporary gospel and inspirational music -- GOLDEN GOSPEL! -- with three-time GRAMMY® Award-winning singer and minister DONNIE McCLURKIN.
ABOUT: Donnie McClurkin can never stay away long from recording profoundly uplifting music for the soul. He has spent the past decade topping the Gospel charts and just this month won his third GRAMMY Award for Best Gospel Performance for Wait on the Lord from his latest release We All Are One. The concert will also feature LIVRÉ (“free” in Portuguese), a young Gospel group from the Bronx comprised of seven singers and three instrumentalists. They will perform such heartfelt, soul-searching songs as Survivor, a testimony of survival, and Believe, an emotional performance of faith and hope.

Escape to Freedom: The Resurrection of Harriet Tubman - A riveting one-woman portrayal of Tubman's life on the Underground Railroad. Melissa Waddy-Thibodeaux brings Tubman to life with a performance infused with a love of reading, helping to re-direct young people to freedom through knowledge.
Dindga McCannon, Weusi Artist - A visual arts workshop with one of the members of the Weusi Artist Collective, who is featured in the pioneering exhibit Weusi Revisited: 2010, currently on display at the Dwyer.
